SANDWICH GENERATION

CONCEPT

The Sandwich Generation is an a 8-part web series hosted by Canadian star and Sandwich Generation "Poster Girl" Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight, Proven Innocent). Rachelle will explore her journey as a caregiver to her parents and children by dialoguing with caregivers who straddle the world of family care and formal care – people who are living the experience of care and have expert knowledge in the caregiver space (health care professionals who are also caring for a family member, as an example).

Building from her own journey, the narrative will weave between the vivid experience of
living through the care experience, complemented by the insights of the caregiver’s expert know- how. The show will dig into the tension that grows from straddling the unpredictable journey of care and the expectation that the caregivers have about doing right by the person in their care and their families while balancing their own personal and professional needs.

In these exchanges, Rachelle learns different approaches to caregiving, the makeshift and the proven, while exposing the imperfection of wandering the wilderness of care. The goal is to normalize the unexpected, unplanned and bewildering side of caregiving, while grounding the episodes in helpful insights and a can-do practical optimism.

Each episode will enlighten a facet of the sandwich generation caregiver’s experience, including:

"How do I relate to my spouse now that I have no time for them?"

“Will my kids forgive me for not being there for them fully?”

"I had my whole life mapped out. How do I start over again?"

With each episode, audiences see themselves in the stories of both a recognized figure and the expert caregiver, increasing their sense of connectedness and empathy to other caregivers, destigmatizing difficult elements in the caregiving process, and learning new mindsets or techniques to approach caregiving challenges.

About Host/Subject Rachelle Lefevre:
Rachelle Lefevre began her career at home in Montreal in the series Big Wolf on Campus, evolving through many roles in LA to gain wide recognition playing vampire Victoria Sutherland in the first two films of the Twilight saga. Rachelle is passionate about many causes: she is on the board of AdoptTogether.org, an organization that helps families raise money to pay their adoption fees, has built houses with Habitat for Humanity, and has supported the National Alliance of Mental Illness for over a decade.
